And this dog’s curiosity is boundless.
Starve Dog Lane’s Winemaker Nic Bowen is ‘Bred with Cred’. Raised in a well-known WA winemaking family, Nic first explored the world of wine by working in the cellars and vineyards of the estates that his father was managing. He has garnered several prestigious awards and in 2012, he accepted the position as Winemaker at Tintara Winery, further exploring the territory of sparkling, white and red wines. It was a natural move for him to take on responsibility for the award winning Adelaide Hills wines from Starve Dog Lane. Boundless curiosity and great experience mean that Nic will use his skills to pursue the success of these wines for many years to come.

The Adelaide Hills region is one of the largest geographical wine regions in Australia, and amongst the most varied in terms of climate, soil and topography. This is the perfect hunting ground for Starve Dog Lane, a source of diverse, curious and adventurous wines. The region has a strong domestic and international reputation as home to some of Australia’s most elegant cool climate wines, displaying great finesse and varietal intensity. The folds and undulations of the Adelaide Hills create a wide range of mesoclimates. In seeking out and exploiting these climatic differences, our vineyards tend to be small in area and often steep. We’ve sniffed out the best, come and explore for yourself…
The Clare Valley region is interesting in that it is cool enough to produce pristine Riesling, but warm enough to fully ripen Shiraz and Cabernet. Adventure is part of the journey here, and we’re exploring it far and wide. Variable topography and soil range, from the higher altitudes of Polish Hill River at 500m in the north, down to the warmer, earlier ripening soldier's blocks at Leasingham in the south make this an exciting region for us. Join us along the trail of discovery of Starve Dog Lane Clare Valley wines.
